Social and political attitudes towards privacy and the role of advertising are evolving rapidly. In the face of these changes, many in industry are developing and marketing new digital advertising technologies that involve privacy enhancing technologies to keep pace. PETs are a broad set of engineering techniques that can be used to safeguard and enhance privacy and security with technical assurances.
One of the most promising is the use of trusted execution environments, which offers both the benefits of leveraging large data sets without the need to share user information amongst different companies or risk the data’s use outside of the context in which it was collected. This presentation will provide an overview of this privacy enhancing technology, and detail how it can be used to balance privacy and utility for the internet ecosystem.
